The Vow

My vow to marriage is greater,
Than any shame or hate,
The public would force on me,
From a future they would fate.

I would rather stay with him,
And find the best within,
Than leave a soul in shame,
Because of inherent sin.

I would rather model love,
And devotion given free,
Than follow man’s temptation,
Mocking me to flee.

I would rather remember his deeds,
Of love and sacrifice,
Than search for provocation,
Within his current vice.

I would rather hope for better,
When faced with sick and ill,
While nurturing his presence,
And love what remains still.

I would rather speak hope,
Over his hurting heart,
Than elevate the circumstance,
That would force us apart.

My vow to marriage is greater,
Because it was made,
Under the banner of heaven,
A covenant He bade.
