Don’t be confused by the glitter and lace, The fancy dress, and painted face. I am not that woman they want me to be. I never was, I am only me. I am not that woman who will laugh and giggle, Dance and prance, or pose and wiggle. But I am that woman who can stand with grace, Solemn and still, when spit in the face. I am not that woman who is toned and firm, Like a statue on display. But I am that woman who is soft and round, Who moves in a natural way. I am not that woman with a twinkly eye, A faint whisper, or a simpering sigh. But I am that woman who will shout and scream, When the enemy comes to steal a dream. I am not that woman who pampers and spoils, The children and men after all their toils. But I am that woman who will lend an ear, An arm and a heart, to battle a fear. I am not that woman who will keep a house, In perfect order and decor. But I am that woman who will build a home, To prepare and be secure. I am not that woman who naps, or sleeps in, Or plays all night and stays up late. But I am that woman who can bear the weight, Of an all night shift and an empty plate. I am not that woman who will take the spoils, Or false promises during a war. But I am that woman who can create, Who takes nothing and makes it more. I am not that woman who will look away, When faced with evil and lies. But I am that woman who can discern with a glance, The truth from your eyes. I am not that woman who fights with her hands, Although I will as a last resort. But I am that woman who will tear you down, With an intellect used as sport. I am not that woman who will fall to pieces, To never acknowledge the attack. But I am that woman who will get back up, Holding the knife you stuck in my back. I am not that woman who will always follow your steps, Or dance to your outdated beat. But I am that woman who can forge a new path, And create my own seat. I am not that woman who needs to destroy, Your kingdom to be my own Queen. But I am that woman who will expose, The lies refused to be seen. I am not that woman who will stay silent and lie, When the devil comes to play. But I am that woman who will face him down, To make him stay away. I am not that woman they painted me to be. I am not their lies, I am only me.
